Dhondup Wangchen: Voices for Freedom

Free Tibetan filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen

This beautiful animated video from our friends at Amnesty International Portugal illustrates the case of Dhondup Wangchen, who is serving
a prison sentence in China for "subversion of state power" -- simply because he dared to speak out about Tibetan human rights through
his filmmaking.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Connecticut Senate Poised to Vote on Death Penalty Repeal

Connecticut Senate Poised to Vote on Death Penalty Repeal

The Connecticut Senate is expected to vote as early as Wednesday (April 4) on a bill to replace the death penalty with a sentence of life without parole. The bill, which would only affect future sentencing, passed the Judiciary Committee on March 21 and needs at least 18 votes to pass in the Senate. If it passes the Senate, it is considered likely to pass the House, and Governor Dannel Malloy has pledged to sign the bill into law.
