Jasmine poem by Al Ajami

Mohammad Al Ajami

Jasmine poem

Knowing that those that satisfy themselves and upset their people
tomorrow will have someone else sitting in their seat,
knowing that those that satisfy themselves and upset their people
tomorrow will have someone else sitting in their seat,
for those that think the country is in your and your kids’ names,
the country is for the people, and its glories are theirs.

Repeat with one voice, for one faith:
We are all Tunisia in the face of repressive elites.
We are all Tunisia in the face of repressive elites.
The Arab governments and who rules them are, without exception, thieves.
Thieves!

The question that frames the thoughts of those who wonder
will not find an answer in any official channels.
As long as it imports everything it has from the West,
why can’t it import laws and freedoms?
Why can’t it import laws and freedoms?

Director makes film about long-term death-row inmate

Director makes film about long-term death-row inmate

A desire to depict one man spending half a century in solitary confinement on death row is what spurred Junichi Saito, 45,
to write his first movie script.

Saito's upcoming film, which translates as "Promise, The Nabari Poisoned Wine Case, the Life of a Death Row Inmate",
has as its main character Masaru Okunishi, 87, a man who after being found not guilty in his first trial was then given the death penalty
over a deadly 1961 wine-poisoning case in Nabari, Mie Prefecture.
A decision for a retrial was temporarily granted but then turned down, and the case is even now under review for retrial.

World Press Photos of the Year (1955-2008)

Uploaded on Mar 11, 2009

This video is a collaboration of the World Press Photos of the Year. It contains 50 photographs as no awards were given in 1959, 1961 or 1970. Some pictures are accompanied with videos of the event taking place. Below is the list of photos including the year, photographer, nationality of the photographer and a description of the photo.

First song: Tell Them That Shes Not Scared by Envy on the Coast

Second song: Forever by Edguy (This song was not my first choice for the video, I thought it was a bit too metaly, but it was good with the time, and the chorus fits amazingly well with the Tiananmen Square video footage).

a must !!!!!

Bishkek's Lenin Museum Keeps Soviet Realism Alive

Bishkek's Lenin Museum Keeps Soviet Realism Alive

Although Kyrgyzstan has renamed the museum in Bishkek's Ala-Too Square the National Historical Museum and filled it with exhibits documenting the country's natural and political history, many still
refer to it as the "Lenin Museum." And it's not hard to see why.
With its grand bronze sculpture of Soviet founder Vladimir Lenin leading the revolution and a mural on the ceiling of all the nationalities of the Soviet Union attending a wedding party, Kyrgyzstan's Soviet
past is hard to ignore.

Adonis, the greatest Arab poet

I release the earth and I imprison the skies.
I fall down in order to stay faithful to the light, in order to make the world ambiguous, fascinating, changeable, dangerous,
in order to announce the steps beyond.

The blood of the gods is still fresh on my clothes.
A seagull's scream echoes through my pages.
Let me just pack up my words and leave.

- Adonis -

excerpt from The Edge of the World

Adonis, considered the greatest living Arab poet,
born January 1, 1930 in Syria, lives in France.
