Mumia update

Update:
Mumia’s wife and his brother were both finally allowed brief visits
with him. He is still in intensive care at the hospital in Pottsville.
He is conscious but sedated. His blood sugar had shot up high
enough to almost produce a coma, but has now been partially
brought down. He is heavily guarded and is shackled to his bed.

The immediate demand now is for his case to be reviewed
by doctors representing his family.

Please call the numbers below, which have been corrected and updated.

A song of now will say that nights
crush
the heart. It will say that love approaches
eternity, or that taste
reveals unending rhythms, the secrets
of the dark.
For it is with names that someone knows
where a body is
through an idea, that a thought
can take the place of a tongue.
—It is with voices that silence wins.

Why Solitary Confinement is Modern Day Torture

  by Molly Crabapple

Published on Mar 2, 2015

As of 2013, there were 80,000 men and women in solitary confinement in the United States, some of them as young
as 14 years old.
In this illustrated op-ed video, artist Molly Crabapple explains the psychological and physical trauma suffered by those forced to spend 22-24 hours a day alone — sometimes for arbitrary reasons, like reading the wrong book, or having the wrong tattoo — in a grey, concrete box. (According to the U.N. 15 days in solitary is torture.)
“There is no limit to how long someone can be held in solitary confinement,” says Crabappple. “And very little evidence is needed to justify holding a person in solitary indefinitely.”

As soon as a thinker starts to reveal his ideas, you will find hundreds of fatwas that accused him of being an infidel just because he had the courage to discuss some sacred topics.
I’m really worried that Arab thinkers will migrate in search of fresh air and to escape the sword of the religious authorities.
