for all these men women and children on the row,
Wherever you walk, walk toward Abolition !!!

i have talked here about all or almost all methods of execution still used now in the world and in recent history.

All executions set in USA are being halted since a month ago, until the US Supreme Court rules if lethal injection is a violation of the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment ....

i just want to post this excerpt of the report 2006 - Amnesty International:

”Based on public reports available, Amnesty International estimated that at least 1,010 people were executed in China during the year, although these figures are only the tip of the iceberg. Credible sources suggest that between 7,500 to 8,000 people were executed in 2006. The official statistics remain a state secret, making monitoring and analysis problematic.

Iran executed 177 people, Pakistan 82 and Iraq and Sudan each at least 65. There were 53 executions in 12 states in the USA.
Kuwait had the highest number of executions per capita of population, followed by Iran.

The worldwide figure for those currently condemned to death and awaiting execution is difficult to assess. The estimated number at the end of 2006 was between 19,185 and 24,646 based on information from human rights groups, media reports and the limited official figures available.“

USA - scheduled executions

November

15 - Michael Schwab - Florida - stayed by the US Supreme Court
15 - Theresa Lewis - Virginia (female) - stayed

December

6 - Tommy Arthur - Alabama - stayed
12 - Pervis Payne - Tennessee - stayed

Kill Death Penalty NOW !!!

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which forbids capital punishment for juveniles, has been signed and ratified by all countries except for the USA and Somalia ....
USA has stopped to kill children just in 2005.
we cannot say the same about some other countries.

Death row - frozen, empty, and dark- the way it should be- poignant image Luisa. Can't imagine any form of murder being 'kind and usual' as opposed to 'cruel and unusual.' Ridiculous for court to not rule that all forms of murder are cruel. Just the fact that someone has to sit in prison for months or years with the heavy weight of knowing that he/she is just waiting to be killed is cruel and unusual in itself. Many on death row have committed unspeakable acts of vicious cruelty- but what good comes of heaping cruelty upon cruelty? The world becomes exponentially more cruel. This punishment is the opposite of being a deterrent- it instead fuels the world atmosphere for more atrocities. The courts need to look at the world and in the mirror. Also, many killers kill in part or in whole due to certain congenital brain abnormalities or post natal brain injuries- so nothing will deter them from violent behavior. The states that murder need their own heads examined.
