Don't send Hakamada back to death row
Don't send Hakamada back to death row
Hakamada Iwao's freedom is hard-won, but it could be lost at any moment. After 46 years on Japan's death row, Hakamada was freed in March. He has been granted a retrial based on new DNA evidence that could prove his claims of innocence. He was the world's longest-serving death row prisoner.
Prosecutors are appealing Hakamada's retrial - they want to return the frail 78-year-old to death row. Ask them to drop the appeal.
