Clay sculptures commemorate Gaza war victims
Clay sculptures representing the victims of the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict were erected in the ruins of Gaza’s Al-Shejaya district.
The artwork was designed by Palestinian artist Iyad Sabbah to commemorate the victims of the latest war with Israel. Al-Shejaya district, one of Gaza's poorest and most crowded neighborhoods,
faced especially heavy bombing during the conflict. IDF’s 'Operation Protective Edge' began on July 8, 2014 and lasted 50 days.
More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed, the vast majority of whom, according to the UN, were civilians - including over 500 children.
